Are you ready to bloom?

We are slowly entering spring… at last! Although there are still a lot of cloudy days and it is raining a lot, spring is in the air. After the dark winter, things start to lighten up again. In my garden the first flowers are blooming, adding magnificent colors to my daily life.

While enjoying the sight of the first blooming flowers I notice that the leaves of most trees are still waiting to manifest themselves. On top of that, I see that the tulips in my garden are not yet in bloom. I wonder what is holding them back? Are they afraid to show their true colors to the world?

In my previous blogpost I wrote about the importance of dreams.

• What is keeping you back to live the life you dream of?
• Do you postpone steps and actions in making your dreams part of your reality?
• Do you find excuses to avoid doing the things you really would love to do?

Anxiety and excessive caution may be getting in your way and stopping you from going after your dreams and living a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
In order to fully bloom it is important to examine what is holding you back. Have the courage to feel the underlying emotion that is preventing you to take action towards realizing your dreams.

Once you have found out what emotions are holding you back, it is good to let them be your guide. Feel the emotion before reacting, so you can take action in the right direction. Feelings are a bit like waves, learn how to surf them rather than avoid them.

Rather than to react on an emotion, it is better to take time to feel the emotion, name, understand the emotion and then take steps towards your goal.
Take time to truly feel your emotions. Make a connection with your emotions by feeling them.

Ask yourself the following questions:

• Anxiety: What am I afraid of?
• Sadness: What have I lost?
• Anger: How have I (or my values) been attacked?
• Happiness: What have I gained?

Once you’ve identified the emotions and its message, the last step is to take action.

From reaction to action

Emotionally evocative stimulus → Emotion → Feeling → Naming → Acting on the information the emotion provides

Feeling your emotions may seem confusing and threatening. Applying the above practical approach reveals emotions for what they really are: useful data. Emotions are signalers of what is going on in your world. How you interpret and work with your emotions influences and determines your outcome.
